Kenji Ono

Kenji is a director and a storyboard artist based in sunny Los Angeles, California, where he spends his days drawing, directing, and occasionally wondering if he could live without his phone.

With over 20 years in the animation industry, Kenji has helped bring stories to life across television and feature films. His work spans epic action adventures like Avatar: The Last Airbender and My Dad the Bounty Hunter, hilarious chaos like The Penguins of Madagascar and The Simpsons, and feature films including The Boss Baby, DC League of Super Pets, and The Cat in the Hat. Whether crafting comedy, action, or heartfelt moments, his goal remains the same: to tell meaningful, authentic, and engaging stories that connect with audiences.

A firm believer that great stories are built by great teams, Kenji loves collaborating with fellow storytellers and creating a safe environment where artists can do their best work. He is passionate about leadership, mentorship, and making sure his team feels supported because happy artists make better cartoons (and fewer late night “quick fixes” that are never actually quick).

Born in Tokyo and raised across Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, and Jakarta, Kenji brings a unique global perspective and a deep appreciation for the people, cultures, and experiences that shape the stories we tell.
